I LOVE PLATIES. They are so beautiful and colorful and are awesome in community tanks. There is not a ounce of aggression in that tiny body. I have two, a baby dalmation and a marigold variatus. I love them both they are buddies as the baby thinks of the older female as a mom as she and my gourami are teaching him things about being a fish.
They are so sweet and play the folow the finger game with you too!
They thrive with guppies and mollies.
I reccomend you take caution with danios and gouramis but mine love eachother!
As far as food goes that depends on there tank mates too.. they only eat a few pellets/flakes etc. at every feeding. Which is really all they need!
These fish are very hardy too!
Good Luck with you platies!

this fish is very colorful, but its color fades easily, so you need a color-enhancing food. I got one of these little fishies and she's been rather shy. I recommend getting more than one. I will soon be getting her a buddy. Lollipop is smaller than I expected but she is not small enough to get eaten. overall wonderful

Mollies and Platties are great together! They have a lot of variety and color in these 2 fish. I have found that they are doing well with at least 1 male to 2 females. In my 55 gal I have:
2 red wag females and 1 male
2 mickey mouse females and 1 male
2 Marigold Variatus
1 Blue high fin female and 1 male
2 Dalmatian females
2 Black Females
2 silver females and 1 silver male
2 Cremecicle females and 1 male
4 Jumbo Neon Tetras
1 Rainbow Shark
1 Comet Goldfish
All are doing well!
