ZuPreem FruitBlend Small Bird Food
With a majority birds you get from the pets stores, they are probably seed fed, so it takes the a bit to get use to other foods.
I got this item hoping the bright colors would peak their interest in the pellets, which are very high in nutrients.
I mixed it into their seed mix to help get them use to the presents of the pellets.
I did this for a month, and all they did was pull out the pellets to get to the seeds easier. My little girls actually climbed into their feeders to used their feet to dig them out!
Once in awhile I'll catch one trying to eat one, but they just threw it to the side to go after the seeds.
Birds might be stubborn with this product if you get it for them. I recommend the small bag as a test run. It may be to at least a few months for them to actually eat it, please don't force your bird by only having this in it's food dish! Lots of other great product they carry to keep your birds happy!

good food, but buy the canary size for parakeets
My parakeets (one from petsmart) were used to seeds when I got them. Someone recommended this food because apparently it is healthier for them (Not sure if this is true - my first parakeet lived to be 12 and had a seed diet). If you have parakeets and you want to switch their diet from seeds to pellets, my recommendation is getting the smaller size (the one with the canary on the package). It is easier for them to eat. Also, my parakeets like it a lot better when I put a little bit of water on the pellets to soften them.

So Much better the Seeds
I've had parakeets for many, many years and at one time they were even laying eggs and I ended up with way more birds then i wanted! I have ALWAYS used ZuPreem FruitBlend pellets. Pellets were recommended by my vet for the nutritional value. He actually said that bird seed is the equivalent to McDonald's fast food but for birds, delicious but not very nutritious. The BIGGEST benefit to pellets it that there is barely any seed mess (husks) on the floor or surrounding area of cage! This is a big plus. It costs more then seed but its TOTALLY worth it.!
