Black Ghost Knifefish
Absolutely love Spike The Knife!
My partner bought me this fish June 2013. He is just such a beautiful fish. Very cool to watch. He swims in so many ways. Sometimes upside down, up and down, and does it flawlessly. He has eaten out of my hand before. He explores a lot. He loves his castle to lay in and a big piece of driftwood. He gets along great with my African Brown Knife, Angel Fish, Blue Guarmi, Pletco, and Barb in the 55 gallon tank. He has grown from about 3 inches to about 7 inches and continues to grow and get even more beautiful. Plan to get another for my 3rd tank.

A really cool but difficult fish
If I had to pick a dream fish, the BGK would be it. The way they move is gorgeous. They are also very smart and know their owners. The downside is they hit 18 inches even in aquariums, and they get big fast. Expect your BGK to be growing an inch or two per month if well fed! They absolutely require spotless, fast-flowing water in seventy five gallons or more per fish with big, robust companions. They're really tough to keep alive, but if you're up for a challenge, definitely recommend this fish. If you want something a little easier and more manageable, go for an African knife.

Finally, after months I have one!
This is a totally awesome fish. They get along well with my catfish, glofish, tiger barbs, silver dollars, leaf fish and rubber lip plecos. I hope I get to see my knife fish grow to 20" long. He likes to hide in a tube that is in a piece of wood. I also have albino tiger barbs I’m going to give away because they nipped at one of my knife fish’s tail and it ended up dying. :( I also had a second one but that one stayed in the wood and never came out. This one I’m talking about is my third one. These are expensive but are totally worth to buy. He does not eat much but he is so adorable. These fish are the king of my 75 gal tank. I just LOVE the way there pectoral fins move along with the current. They look like they can fly!! I always imagine my knife fish full grown. When it comes to knife fish you should not pick out any random tank mate. Their bottom fins (pectoral fins) is one whole fin so they can’t swim if they have been bitten there. Gouramis are good tank mates. These knife fish should not be kept with large plecos sometimes because they can freak out and might die from fright. These are expensive but everyone HAS to get one!! :)
