Ok. So I have two aquariums.. a 29 and 55 gallon going on 7 years for my exotic African cichlid peacocks and haps. When I first got into the hobby I didn't know any better laying down gravel for my substrate. What I learned over time was that fish waste and food particles work their way down below the gravel to the bottom of the tank & concentrate. Over time this causes the matter to become extremely toxic to your fish when agitated on the bottom of your tank. This causes fish to die and die in a hurry as I've tried to save them but too late. I highly recommend anyone getting into the hobby to stay clear of gravel unless you want to be cleaning the gravel bed constantly before toxic levels accrue over time. This is where Tahitian moon sand into play. This stuff is superb and looks great but most importantly fish waste stays atop the layer of sand and therefore can't work it's way to the bottom of the aquarium. I've had it in my 29 since day one years ago and the water stays crystal clear and rarely have a fish pass away. Usually if I do find one it's because it was bullied to death. On the other hand in my 55 I had gravel for many years and the water was usually cloudy and I didn't know why. As I moved my hand through the gravel on the bottom of the tank I was amazed at how much waste, deadly bacteria and such concentrated down there. After disturbing the under lying waste I had 3 expensive fish within minutes. I'd had enough & replaced the gravel with Tahitian moon sand & all problems solved! Plus it looks way better and the fish love it too. The black semi sparkly sand really makes your fishes colors stand out and pop. Just make sure to rinse the sand very well before putting it in your tank & you'll be good to go. You won't be disappointed and most importantly you don't have to worry about toxic build-up on the bottom of your tank. I hope this review helps those who may just be getting into the hobby and looking for guidance.

I freak'n LOVE it. I love the fact that CaribSea Aquarium Sand it's black (since black is my favorite color) and it's sand. It's so beautiful when I turn on the aquarium lights. It only took one bag to fill up my 29 gallon aquarium but I don't know about my 55 gal. It's so great can't wait 'til I start decorating it and add in fishes... I'm so excited! Lol.

by Fishie1 I have used this product in most of my aquariums and the outcomes are wonderful. I love how it makes the other plants and rocks pop. The quality is great and the color looks great.
