Rated 5 out of 5 by Averi I LOVE THESE.
They are so fascinating to watch. I currently only have one black mystery snail in a 1 gallon tank because that's all I have for right now, but when I get my 10 gallon I'm going to get a gold and a black one. The one I have now loves to eat lettuce and any kind of fish food.

I bought one of these mystery snails, which are actually apple snails, because they supposedly eat algae. COMPLETLY WRONG! It eats no algae and only will rarely eat algae wafers. On top of all that, when I put this snail in my tank, my two VERY expensive freshwater figure 8 puffers died. I believe this horrible snail is to blame. DO NOT BUY! (Ghost shrimp or cherry shrimp will do a wonderful job of eating algae.)

I have had a Blue Mystery Snail in my aquarium for quite some time, and I enjoy it. Combined with my Nerite Snails they make quite the little clean up crew (but will not replace a regular cleaning, and do still need to be fed once and a while). Before purchasing a Mystery Snail I would suggest reading up on their behavior and some stuff they need first. I only have one because they can breed in fresh water, while Nerite Snails can only successfully breed in brackish water.
Over-all, it's a nice snail to have, but I will only keep one in my aquarium. They are entertaining, and look like nice little mobile jewels in a well-lit tank.

Okay first of all it's not a "mystery snail" it's called an apple snail. In the description it says they eat rotting vegetation. WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They eat every single plant I put in my tank, about $25 worth of aquarium plants/moss, and the couple of snails I bought never even touched the algae. In my beta tank (5 gallons) I have a beta (duh) and 3 apple snails. I clean the tank every 2-3 days because they make soooooooooooo much waste it's ridiculas. If you want a small animal to get the algae get ghost shrimp, they are small actually eat the algae and are really cute or cherry, crystal, blue, or amano shrimp. I wish I could give this 0 stars because thats what this deserves.
