Do not,I repeat NOT, buy this product. I bought the first one and after about 2 months my tank didn't seem to be getting clean and the filter was making an awful grinding sound. I thought maybe I just got a bad one or it got damaged from a move I recently made. However, I bought abother one and the exact same thing happened! I took the filter apart and cleaned it thinking maybe it was the little bit of sand from the tank... but it didn't help at all. I guess I shouldn't have been optimistic and bought it twice.

This stopped working after 5 months. Was decent during that time, quiet. Used in 10 gal. Freshwater tank. I made a cover for it with a black lid from a coffee canister be use I disliked the open view on the top of this filter-maybe doesn't have lid due to option of having fully submersed?...I had top exposed about 1-2" above water level.

I actually was wondering about this filter for quite some time and was wanting to put it in my betta tank but never got around to buying it by itself. As it would happen, the next time I bought a half moon 10 gallon kit, this little nightmare can as the filter. At first I was really happy with it as it was super quiet and kept the tank clean, but a week later I could not find anything I liked about it. Nothing had changed except for the fact that water would shoot out the top of the filter and run down the wall and cord strait to the power strip. No matter what I did, hang the cord higher, loop the cord up to three times, lower the water level, or put a piece of packing tape over the top every morning, I would always come home to a soaked floor and a half full tank.

by MissDeevi Great Little Filter - No Complaints Here
I actually bought the more expensive Fluvel in tank 20-40 gallon filter but when I got home it had this Whisper i10 in the box. I was obviously mad but wanting to get my fish in the bigger tank right away I started looking up reviews and this got way better reviews than the Fluvel. Decided not take it back to the store and just keep it and it works great in my 20 gallon tank. If I used it in a 10 gallon I could imagine the water would be crystal clear. My water is pretty much Crystal clear but I have 6 very poopy fish and 18 also very poopy fry. A couple more partial water changes and a new filter pack in a week or so and this filter will be even better. Whoever says this isn't great is probably a fish tank snob who is expecting canister cleaning at economy filter prices.
