Male Fancy Bear Hamster
So Soft and Sweet
For my birthday I was able to get a hamster. I knew ahead of time and so I did some research on them. I decided to go with a male hamster. When I went to the store I was going to get a white one. However he was a bit older than the black ones and I wanted a younger one. So I sat and watched plus interacted with the four black ones they had. Two wanted absolutely nothing to do with me. The other two, one grayish black & the other black with a white stripe down the front of its body, let me pet them, hold them, and they came up to me and sniffed me.
I settled on the black one with the white stripe. It took me about 3 days to come up with a name. I decided on Thor because I have a cat named Loki and she is mesmerized by him. It seemed like the right name. I let him settle in his home for a good 4 days before I handled him. I talked to him while changing water and food within those days. He now recognizes my voice, doesn't hide anymore when I come up to talk to him. He's so SOFT, like a baby's blanket. As of now, we play in the bathtub, it's convenient and he can't get out.
When getting a hamster, it may seem like a simple pet, which to an extent, it is. They sleep mostly, but you must interact with them if you want the be able to handle them. Have a wheel handy for them. Chewable toys, a nice little hiding place. Plus any other activities your hamster may enjoy. Make sure to wash your hands before and after. No scented soap, I found out the hard way when Thor decided to nip at my fingers because they smelled like watermelon. I recommend a hamster if you want a pet that doesn't require very much maintenance or money spent. I had hamsters as a child, and my mom had one in her early twenties, so it helped in knowing what to look for. They're sweet animals to have within your family.

Best Pet EVER
I bought a black 8 week old fancy bear (A.K.A Syrian) hamster only a week or two ago. His name is Moose, and he is possibly the most delightful, sweetest, most kissable and cuddly thing ever. Being a first time hamster owner, I have to say I was super shocked and giddy at how Moose acted.
On the second day we had him, I was already able to pet him and pick him up(just not from his cage). He freely crawls onto my hands and litterally can't stop falling asleep in my lap! I was surprised by how easily he accepted me, and how quickly we made a bond.
I would totally recomend these type of hamsters to anyone from the ages 12+, only because they can be a bit nervous and you don't want a child to drop or be bitten by him (even though they rarely ever bite). The only thing I don't like that much is how hyper active my little guy is. He loves to climb, but never uses his wheel and only ever chews on his bars, not the chew toys.
