I purchased this for my daughter for her birthday. Sat it up, plugged it in, and it does not work at all. Called the store, they will take it back but it is very disappointing that it does not work.

I went to the store looking for a filter, but ended up getting this tank and filter for a couple of reasons:
- Filters in general confuse me. Because this one was listed as 45 gph (versus most of them that seemed to be in the 100 gph range), I thought the power flow would be calm enough (spoiler alert: not so much).
- I liked the size and the shape of the tank. I LOVE how lightweight it is. I was replacing a 2.5 gallon glass tank that weighs a ton even BEFORE you put water in it.
- My betta was having trouble with flaring with the glass tank, and I had heard that acrylic was a good alternative.
I agree that the filter is too strong for a betta. I'm going to try to baffle mine, or try to get a different filter. I am worried about doing water changes with such a big tank, which is why I was eager to have a filter so that I wouldn't need to do as many water changes.
I also have a lucky bamboo plant, which is taller than the hood, so I have not used the cover or the LED lights yet. Other reviews do mention that the LED lights are not the best, but that wasn't a big factor in my decision anyway.
It was a good price, except that now I have to buy a new filter anyway...I do like the tank, though. If you could make the filter work, I think it's a good deal for the filter and the tank, even if the lights aren't great.
I will say that it is a little bit tall for a betta as well.

I bought this tank kit for one of my bettas, and I really love it! It's a great size for the price, and is a good size for housing bettas. Although bettas thrive really well in larger tanks, this is a good alternative that doesn't take up as much space as a 5 or 10 gallon. The filter works really well but is a little strong, but if you place leafy plants underneath the outtake it doesn't disturb the water hardly at all. It also keeps the water looking really clear and clean. The light has many options and is fun but I just use the regular white light and it looks really nice. I went out and bought a second tank for my other betta, and they both are way more active in these tanks and explore all day. I would definitely recommend this tank if you don't have space for a larger one. This tank is about the same price as 1 gallon tank kits but has more than 3 times the space and is way more fun to decorate. Perfect for a new fish owner, but I would only keep one betta or 3 african drawf frogs in this tank, it would be too small for anything else. If you are buying a betta and don't want to make a huge space commitment, I would highly recommend this tank.

Rated 2 out of 5 by Fishlover82 Great tank! But the problem is that the filter is so strong and does not have good quality. The quality of the filter is cheap because the part of the filter were the water comes out there is a cover on it and if you take that cover off the water will shoot out! Im not very happy with my perches. I would get a back up filter.
