No bed is indestructible regardless of what may be claimed. My dogs easily chew through sticks the size of my arm; completely ignoring that, I thought I'd find a bed they couldn't destroy and went through a number of heavy duty ones with no success. Our doggies have dug holes into beds; as pups their needle teeth punctured most anything.
As our dogs have aged, they chew less and don't destroy things like they did when they were young, so beds last longer than before.
The first two of these pads, and they do have decent cushioning and nice bolsters, were purchased a year ago and are still in very good condition despite numerous digging attempts but no chewing. They are the best looking beds over time we've had and we recently purchased another set to go under the first adding a little more padding with the high bolsters forming a secure "den" they seem to like.
So, these beds have worked out well for our supposedly mature dogs, just don't expect too much from any bed until your dog outgrows its destructive phases.

If I could rate no stars or negative stars I would. This mat didn't survive the washing machine. We owned this for less than 24 hours and our puppy had an accident. I followed the washing instructions and put it into the washer on gentle.
When I opened the washer I was shocked to see the destroyed mat; it had completely fallen apart on one side, the stitching on a corner had come completely undone and my washer was filled with stuffing. As if cleaning up after a puppy isn't enough now we had to clean up from the defective product in the washing machine. Not Happy.

There are a lot of negative reviews about this crate pad. We've gone through more crate beds than I can count, some with 5 star reviews, and our yellow lab puppy destroyed everyone of them. We realized that crate training is more than just getting your dog to stay in one. We have trained our pup to be quiet while in the crate and have also trained him not to chew on his bed. This Kong pad has worked very well. To even think that our pup won't try to chew it up is fooling ourselves. But this pad has given him a run for his money. Crate training involves more than just shoving your dog in a crate and leaving him there. If your dog can chew thru this one then don't put any pad in the crate. Or try training good behavior while in the crate. It takes a lot of time and consistency but it can be done.

by Dhavanm07 Do not buy if dog is a biter
My little lady is a 1 yo German shepherd and I purchased this crate pad specifically because it is was supposed to be durable. Literally purchased pad yesterday and she has already ripped a hole in it. So I will go back to purchasing cheap pads instead of wasting 50 bucks on a pad that she can bite through in a day or invest in bitter apple spray :) I love PetSmart but I am not happy with this product
