This is the product i really like, i never know what exactly i needed to do this correctly. So I laid a couple of layers of substrate down on the bed of my tank, though gravel on top. And planted a few ferns in, meanwhile i also have a landscape artist aka (blue lobster) in there too. He cut my ferns down to nobbs, so i move them to a better location for a chance at survival. They did within two week baby leaves where up out of the gravel, But i do have some dislikes also. It makes the water very cloudy for several for hours, i almost went though a hold box of filters just to get the water to the visible look i want it. So I got something else to help with that, but in the end i was very satisfied. Great product!!!

This is my favorite substrate to use in my aquariums. I notice a significant difference in substrate cleanliness using Flourite. Particularly when I vacuum my tank. The amount of detritus that is pulled up is less than my tank with rock gravel. The ceramic seems to absorbe the detritus which I imagine is a good thing. I have a planted aquarium. I feel the absorbed matter can provide nourishment for the plants. When you first purchase Flourite it is very difficult to rinse off. There is a lot of clay dust powder that comes off. It seems endless at first but eventually stops completely. Maybe Seachem can do something about the amount of clay dust in the bags. I feel it's performance as a aquarium substrate is excellent though.

This is a tricky product the there's alot of settlement in this product, meaning there will be 6-12hrs of cloudiness and I would suggest to have an extra filter on hand, because you'll blow through over night. One way to curve the amount cloudiness for the first time adding water is, layer a couple sheets of paper towel down.

Rated 1 out of 5 by daraccent My review for Flourite substrate is rated Poor. I do not recommend this product.
Since using this product, I have had nothing but problems with Hair algae, and algae overgrowth in one of my tanks.
My other tank with just plain gravel has no algae problems.
