these fish come in an amazing variety of colors! I have had many of these in the past, they live quite long as long as you have a healthy tank. They grow at a rapid pace! I get them small always from pet smart, put them in my pond for the summer and they have grown to about a foot by then, you will need a very large tank for them if you plan on bringing them in for winter from a pond. They do eat a lot, but the food is not that expensive. I just love the colors they have, and the size they get to! You also must realize before you get them that they CAN live for 60 years or MORE!!!!!! these fish are not really for beginner fish owners because they require quite a bit of maintenance. The tank or pond must be keep very clean to keep the fish healthy. Also must be fed, every day, twice a day! If you go away you will need to get a fish sitter to feed your fish. These fish do not need things like decorations in there tank, but they should have plants in the tank or pond. Live plants would be he best in a tank or pond, but fake plants will do in either. In order to keep these fish you should get your water tested first to make sure it does not have any poisonous chemicals in it. They go great with fish like comet goldfish, and algae eaters, and do not need a heated tank, but the tank should be kept warm, not to cold. So overall I would highly recommend these fish, as long as your are committed to 60 years + of fish care.

i have 3 koi in my home made pond it is my second time having koi(first time i killed on accident) but they have been thriving for 1 year now and 2 of them are about 12 inches long and the smaller one about 10 inches i am starting to feed them by hand even though they would never come near me in the beginning. now that they are a lil bigger they are eating from my hand . yes its not the three inch 50$ koi from a koi breeder but these guys will do great as long as you know what you are doing.

Koi are wonderful fish but are POND fish!
Koi grow very large and really need to be kept in a large pond. Mine will eat out of my hand. I wish more colors were available though (in store).
