Third one over three years, noisy and the motors go out. Messy clean up.

I don't have the newest version of this with the change indicator. It's very quiet and I haven't had any problems with it. The directions it came with did not mention the pre-screening portion of the filter. it was only after numerous changes that I found that there was another part that could be cleaned beside the filter media. (none of my previous filters had this). I have a 55 gal and it does wonders keeping it clean. I am adding a pump head to the other end of the tank to get more movement in the water towards the filter. I don't see what all the fuss is about concerning noise. It's very quiet.

Rated 4 out of 5 by mamahmendez Great function but a little loud
This seems like a good filter. It is easy to use and install and can be easily customized to use the media of your choice. The "waterfall" output is much smoother than a lot of other filters so you don't have all that splashing noise. It is easy to adjust the impeller and the customer service rep I spoke to was very helpful. The only negative I have is that the motor was a little louder than expected. It was a little loud for a kids bedroom but would be great in any other room in the house.

I recently bought an ex70 on sale at my local store. It was to work in tandem with my aquaclear 110. The ex70 was not hard to put together and get running, but once it was up and running i was very disappointed. Even after I let it cycle and run for a few hours, it was still loud and it could be heard over the tv. I have continued to use it for a few months because the tank is in the basement and the noise isnt a bother. Bottom line: for 12 dollars more you can buy a nice aquaclear that will give you better filtration, last longer, run quieter, and doesn't require a new cartridge every time one gets dirty.
( with filters like the aquaclears you can rinse the filter pad out and reuse it) If I would have known how noisy this filter was, I would have put the money toward another aquaclear.
