Rated 5 out of 5 by Joe1987 Have two filters both work great, easy to prime and easy to clean. Quiet when running.I have Platy fish and the fry get contained in the bottom of the filter and survive until I clean the filter. If you have a problem putting the hoses on just heat the hose end with hair dryer and push on.

I have a 125 gallon tank, so I bought the large api filter, seen how the other filters are so expensive, so was worried if this one would be okay.. I have a overflow system built in on my tank, so I didn't use the provided pipes that came the it, works great, flawless so far, been set up for 3 weeks now. crystal clear water. I liked it because It because it had a universal hook up for your water lines, makes it easy to hook up to almost any system.. only down side I see is that it didn't come with a lot of media with filter, but for the price you can get which ever u want to add more of, it does come with enough to get it started. so just to see if it was easy to clean, I took it apart today. auto water cutoff worked great, and quick disconnect is flawless. Came apart easy and was simple to service, primed easily. A+ rating from me.. if you are wondering if you should buy this like I was, just do it. you wont be disappointed..

Rated 5 out of 5 by Texx Excellent filter hands down!
I had a FLUVAL 50 Gal + HOB filter with a Aqueon 30-40 HOB filter and my water was always cloudy.. I was thinking it was a cycle but on my 29 gal the water never got better after months.. I tried over 3 filters and never got the results I wanted and needed for my fish friends. So I went back to the store and returned my FLUVAL HOB filter and paid the difference for my New API canister Filter which was on sale for only 110.00 bucks!! I bought the M version cause you can never have enough filtration, I wanted the 2 baskets instead of the one on the small version. More media better bio!! My water cleared up in less than 24 hours!! Water no longer smells or is dirty! Thats cause I had tanis staining my water as well left over from my new drift wood. THIS IS THE Best filter hands down! I did alot of research and this ones the best in my opinion.
Pros: User friendly, Awesome flow and filtration, Customize Media . Quiet, Good starter media, Fast filtration, Easy Prime, Easy to clean, Water shut off valve, clear container so you can see water as it fills the canister and it is pure quality!
Cons: Tubing is hard to slip on (be careful not to break or bend parts when putting tubing on)
Not enough media is included.. You need to buy extra chem stars and sponges. one of each.
charcoal pads only good for about 2 weeks, upgrade to a aftermarket one that you can rinse and reuse. plus you don't need charcoal unless your waters murky or smells.
hose clips are lame. to small.
No funnel to help prime.
Overall its a great filter and i will no longer have murky waters!

I bought the Filstar size large for my 150 gallon tank that house my one year old female mississippi map turtle and some tetras and a 7 inch pleco. It is a great filter and easy to clean which I only do once a month. The reason I did not give 5 stars is because it did not come with instructions on how to set up so I had to go to youtube for a tutorial video. It can be tough to prime but one you figure it out, it's very easy.
