I purchased this filter less than 6 months ago for my turtle tank. The filter stops working randomly and is difficult to get running again. The top is very difficult to remove to change or clean the inside. It also randomly starts making a loud noise as if the motor is going out. Currently the only way I can make it filter is by tilting it on it's side.

Rated 5 out of 5 by vbnm Great working filter
I just bought the CF80 Canister Filter, first canister I have ever used. So far everything is working great. It is the most quiet filter I have ever used, but it has the most confusing instructions I have ever worked with!!! They definitely need to work on this!

Rated 5 out of 5 by KGNickl Great Filters (expecially if you get on sale!)
I have 29 gallon tank running a CF80 and couple 20 gallon tanks that are running CF50 filters. These filters are just relabeled Eheim Ecco Pro filters (2232=CF30, 2234=CF50, 2236=CF80) that are black/gray instead of green. I actually prefer these to the actual Eheim Ecco Pro as the black/gray is better looking in my opinion. At full price I don't think I would buy these and would just go for a comparable Eheim Classic instead. But on sale these for the price/quality they cannot be beat! I believe they were on sale for 50% off and had 20% off on top of that for online purchase w/ in store pickup when I got mine! So watch for sales if you want a great filter for a great deal!

Rated 5 out of 5 by mermaidsurf Great filter- but help me set this thing up again!
This is my first canister filter and I'm new to aquarium care.
My filter has been working beautifully since someone else set it up for me the first time. Much better than my old standard filter that came with the tank!
Now it's time to change the water and clean the system. I took everything apart successfully but I'm having trouble making sense of the instructions for how to put it back together...these instructions are very confusing as others have mentioned. I tried to follow them and a bunch of filtered gunk came out of the hoses and poured back into my tank. Can someone tell me step-by-step in simpler terms how to re-set up this thing once I have the top off and hoses disconnected?
Also, any insight as to how often I should change pads/rinse the media etc would be appreciated since I don't trust the instructions. Should I wash the tubing considering all of the gunk that came out? Thanks!
