I really wanted this to work. I purchased this 4 different times hoping it would do the job and none of them would even turn on. Two were purchased at one Petsmart and the other two were at a different Petsmart. Advice: Do not purchase this because it's unreliable.

I purchased two of these big dog trainers. The shock went out in the first one within a week. The 2nd did not even charge the remote.
Terrible product for that high price.

I have two dogs that I take for a walk in woods regularly. I purchased the Big Dog Elite training system for one dog at first, but was so impressed with it that I bought a second add-on collar. Each collar had a rubberized strap with two ways to connect: a buckle similar to that on a typical belt; and a plastic push-snap quick connect type. A few weeks ago a collar fell off one of the dogs and I couldn't find it. I purchased another add-on collar noting that the strap is now made of nylon mesh with only the quick connect. I thought the buckle may have been the reason my collar was lost; however, the same thing happened to the new collar...but I didn't lose it because I fastened it to another collar which had a buckle on it.
About the same time I lost the first collar, my other collar stopped working after 15 to 30 minutes each time I used it. Both issues are very frustrating.

I've had this unit for almost two years now, and gives my dog the invisible "pinch" to let him know what he's doing is not right. Dogs live in the moment, so you watch them carefully and correct them just in that moment as they are thinking about doing it. The static shock is more instant and tangible than you saying "NO", which they hear enough during the day :-) My dog had a jumping up habit, mostly with smaller women, and I tell you, one press of the button as he was about to do it, and he was a gentleman for the rest of the day. It only took two or three more other occurrences, and he stopped jumping up completely no matter who it was. Charging is so nice, as they split off the cord so you can charge the collar and the remote at the same time. Yay! Someone is thinking! Speaking of charging, It seems to prefer and be more consistent when fully charged, so I leave it plugged in all the time, and almost two years the batteries have not suffered. He has gone swimming dozens if not hundreds of times, make sure you put the little rubber plug in. I bought some little black zip ties to hold the collar size adjustment in place, as the loops can let go. If your dog does not have more growing to do you can trim the really long strap with scissors. Then the size stays the same and it fastens with a nice click on buckle.
