We adopted our dog about a month ago and received no information from the dog shelter about her anxiety. She has severe separation anxiety, she has torn up our blinds to try and look outside, has broke her kennel door trying to get out and tried to chew and scratch her way out of our front door. She is not a destructive dog at all when we're home and is very calm and quiet but once we leave she barks and whines for almost 4 hours. I have set up video chat from my laptop so that i can see how she is from work so i know she is definitely not calm and this product does not work. I purchased this diffuser after reading about it online. Unfortunately it does not work for my dog at all. It's better for her to be out of her cage so she can wonder than to be trapped in a kennel so I plugged it in right next to her bed. And it has 0 effect on her. If your dog has severe separation anxiety like mine. Don't waste your money on this. It's also $45 dollars at my local petsmart in Chicago.

I adopted a dog about 3 weeks ago and knew she had some separation anxiety issues. I initially tried to use an anxiety treat to settle her while I was gone during the day. Those didn't seem to work, and I received a few phone calls about her barking and whining throughout the day.
I bought the diffuser a few days later and plugged it in about 2 feet from her kennel. The next day I waited outside my bedroom window at my apartment and didn't hear a single whine or bark, and the phone calls about her barking have also stopped.
The ONLY reason I give this 4 stars is there are 2 tricks to using this. I've found it works better for her if I unplug it when she's not in the kennel, and then plug it in about 30 minutes before she is going to be locked up. It's almost as if she gets used to the calming stuff and it doesn't help her as much. If I let the stuff dissipate at night, and then give her a "fresh dose" every morning, it helps tremendously.
The other reason for 4 stars is the stench the thing puts off. I thought for awhile that she had peed through her kennel and gotten some on the carpet. The smell the thing puts off is similar to urine, but a little stronger, which is another reason I've started unplugging it in the evenings.

After putting this near the crate our 8 week old puppy stopped whining. He really helped him relax through the night. We used this in combination with a cuddle buddy the kong alligator.

Rated 5 out of 5 by dougiesnacks I am so glad I found this product. My boxer puppy is only one week shy of being 7 months. He has never been left alone before and we didn't crate train him. So we just got an apartment and this is all new to our puppy, he was having anxiety from all the new things going on. We purchased this and this helped with him not eating our blinds and peeing on the floor. I couldn't be happier. I would totally recommend this product to anyone having behavior issues.
