Rated 4 out of 5 by Blackmoons00 Great gate... BUT not for big chewers...
When I was going through reviews prior to purchasing this gate there was some confusion as to whether the gate was metal or wood. I want to clear this up: ITS BOTH!
The frame and extension poles are all metal but the rungs on the inside of the actual door are wood. Because of that, I would not recommend this gate for dogs who are big chewers or have serious separation anxiety. However, if you have a puppy and properly train the dog and take the necessary steps to avoid creating a dog with separation anxiety, this grate is fantastic.
It is very sturdy and simply looks great. I have one separating my kitchen from the rest of the house/apartment and its just at a height that it finishes the line of our chair rail molding across the span of the doorway. I didn't even think of that when I purchased it, but it made me happy when I set it up.
I give it 4 stars because, again, the rungs inside the door itself are wood. I would have much preferred the added security of an all metal gate. I also wish it was an auto-close door but I don't NEED that feature so I compromised for the look and sturdiness of this gate. It does swing, open and close easily as long as you set it up exactly as it says.
Directions are a little daunting at first... I think I read it a dozen times before I started but then as soon as I did start, suddenly it all made sense and the gate was up in less than 10 minutes.
Overall, this gate is GREAT and worth the money. Just know that the wood may not last if your dog is not properly trained or is left for long periods of time with nothing else to do but cause trouble.
