Read reviews on this product going back to 2010 and I wish I would have read them before buying this door. Still the same complaint for more than 6 years, the collars are junk. To replace the battery that operates the collar device, the two halves of the device need to be separated. No matter how careful you are, when you crack the seal on the device the antennae breaks off and the device becomes useless. What this device needs is a separate compartment to easily replace the battery from the outside of the device. Too bad the company hasn't listened to the consumer. I can not recommend this product.

We have had the door system for over a year. Love the door system itself but the collars are something to desire. Each collar we had purchased we have had to tape together just to make connection with the battery. The last one we put on our dog, brand new, he made one trip out the door with it on and it fell apart. In turn losing both the front of the battery case as well as the new battery. Hard to recommend this system to others knowing that it is dependent on the collar itself.

Have had doggie door one year. The pets (two dogs) love it, but am on my third transmitter and have gone through over a dozen batteries. Despite claims of three months, I'm finding about a six week battery life.
The transmitter pops open randomly. The new one took only 35 minutes before it had fallen apart. I used electrician's tape along the seam of the transmitter and so far (two weeks) that has held.
If you buy this, I'd advise extra batteries and transmitter up front, as you'll need them!

The door is just great... the dogs took to it in a heartbeat. I had read about several problems with the collar transmitters but decided to give it a try. We have had no problems with the transmitters this first month. But if you have more than one dog, watch out. It took about 30 minutes for our Havanese sisters to chew through the strap collar that comes with the transmitter. Moments later the device was in pieces. We are still working on a replacement. It is challenging because the strap that is provides is thin, thus the slots in the transmitter won't accept a more robust collar. Sure hope we can solve this because we love the set up - and so do the dogs....
