I got this for my Chihuahua mix mostly for when I take her out for potty breaks. It's not very good for using alongside a collar. If the leash ever goes tight it pulls her collar and gets in the way of the bark collar and loosens it too. I think this is why sometimes she doesn't react to the correction. It seems like it has to be pretty tight for her to feel the correction, and it doesn't want to stay that tight.
It has worked well on my other Chihuahua for use inside the house. I use it on her when we have guests over. After she figured out what it does, I can almost just show her the collar and she understands that she needs to stop or I'll put it on her.
It should work just fine if you're going to keep it on your dog while she's loose.

Rated 5 out of 5 by JayChris Worked on my stubborn dachshund
I was receiving complaints from my neighbors about my 8-year old dachshund barking relentlessly any time I am not home. I set up a surveillance camera and they were right - he wouldn't bark all day, but it would be loud and annoying as soon as I left in the morning (which is apparently when the neighbors are trying to sleep). I tried other methods to distract him such as leaving the TV on and freezing a stuffed Kong, but these would only delay the barking by a few minutes. I knew that if I didn't want to spend hundreds of dollars a month on doggy daycare, I would have to make a behavioral change.
After reading so many reviews on how this has worked wonders on dachshunds (which all dachshund owners know are extremely stubborn), I knew I had to make this investment. When I first received it, I was discouraged because even the tightest setting was too loose around my Eddie's neck (he is 14 pounds). I tried leaving it like this on the first day anyway thinking he might still feel the corrections, but they didn't seem to bother him at all - he kept barking away. I made the collar tighter by tying a knot in it. It certainly isn't the most attractive collar, but this made it the perfect size - nice and snug without choking him. I turned it on the next day and he barked multiple times until he finally let out a loud yelp in reaction to the high intensity correction. It was heartbreaking, but I will say, he learned his lesson. I have not heard him bark since when the collar is on.
He does whine and howl occasionally (he is very smart, so he learned these sounds don't trigger the correction), but these only last a few minutes and are far less annoying than the barking. Then he lays on the couch and doesn't make a sound the rest of the day like a good boy.
He isn't sacred of the collar when I put it on him in the morning. Sometimes I let him sleep with it (but turn it off right when I get home) so he's comfortable with wearing it. I may not even need to turn it on moving forward since his behavior has been so consistently good. I make sure to reward him with lots of attention and a treat for being quiet when I get home.
The bottom line is, make sure the collar is snug around your dog's neck and make sure the use of the collar is consistent so he knows it's a normal thing. My neighbors haven't complained since. This is worth the investment.

Rated 3 out of 5 by SusanWoozenBoBoozen Works but...
The actual item does work, the dog knows right away that barking is not desirable - BUT the battery life on this thing STINKS! We really only use it a few times a month and since having it for a year, have had to buy 3 batteries. It wouldn't be a big deal - but these aren't your normal batteries - these cost around $12 (each!). And yes - I turn it off when not in use, I don't leave it on the dog for extended periods of time, and no - my dog does not still bark with it on (draining the battery). BUT he does test it, and when it's on but the battery is low/dead - the barking starts again. It's also not the collar its self - I returned the first one I had. Both the other 2 have the same low battery life results. If you are keen on paying $100 for the product and $12, every few months - then this is the product for you. Sorry, I don't have an alternative suggestion (I mean, I can't really afford to scrap these and try something else, since they were $100 a pop). Oh well.
