National Geographic™ Turbo Grass Scratcher Cat Toy
Worth growing your own grass over the fake stuff!
My kitty LOVES this. The ball can be noisy at night, so I just snap it out while we sleep. Setting it up was simple: Soak the seeds for 12 hours (easy to forget about.. mine soaked for about 18) sprinkle them onto the vermiculite in the tray, put it in a dark place for 1-2 days (I used a kitchen cupboard) and wait for sprouts, after most of the tray has sprouted set in a sunny room (out of the cat's reach) for 2-3 days for the grass to get nice and long... voila!
The over-all time is long, but it's just doing a natural thing while you forget about it and I will definitely be buying the replacement seeds/vermiculite.
Two downsides I'll give it is if the grass is too long (the recommended 5 inches) it tangles in itself as soon as the cat lays/sits on it and if your cat likes to pull back while chewing the grass, the seeds will usually come out with it (not sure if that's bad for digestion or not).
My cat did NOT get sick once while eating this grass and that was an initial worry because he's a 6 month old kitten.
7/10! Will buy (refills) again!

Too much work, poor outcome.
When I buy cat grass pre-grown in containers my cat always knocks them over and creates a mess everywhere. I though this would be a good solution, can't be tipped over with the added benefit of a toy. When I read the directions on how to grow the grass I said "are you kidding me?" Soak for 12 hours, keep in dark place till it sprouts misting 2x a day, then place in indirect sunlight and water with 1/4 cup as needed until 5 inches tall..... I ended up with a few pathetic little sprouts about an inch tall. There's no way of telling when water is needed because the seeds are sitting on a thin layer of vermiculite underneath a plastic grate. This is way too much work for grass that is only supposed to last 3 weeks....if you can get it to grow at all. Then they expect you to buy a refill and start the process all over again. No thanks. Tried to upload a photo but kept timing out.
