Drinkwell Platinum Pet Fountain
great for the cats!
Have had 3 years. Cats water intake greatly increased, which improved their over all health. They are 16 and 18 years old. You have to clean it on a weely or bi-weekly bases. This depends on your water quality. Everything requires normal maintenance.

Overflows unless you clean it weekly
I have had two of these. The first started emptying all over the floor after about a year because the reservoir would empty into the bowl which caused it to overflow. But my cats liked it so i bought another. Within a month the same thing began to happen. Air would get into the reservoir as i watched and the bowl would overflow. So I went to the manufacturer's web site for guidance and was told that it was caused by a crack in the reservoir, so i bought a replacement (why would the original crack in 1 month?). When the replacement came and i began to use it, the problem continued. So I called the customer service line and was told by a very helpful and pleasant customer service rep that i needed to take it entirely apart WEEKLY and thoroughly clean it, including the motor, or it would leak. Sorry folks, but i don't have time to tear it apart every weekend to clean it. It now resides on a shelf in my basement and i bought a new fountain from another manufacturer. Don't buy this fountain unless you like to take it apart regularly or like cleaning up puddles.

Keeps my cat out of the bathtub
My cats loves to drink out of the bathtub, it's something about the running water that they love. I did a lot of research comparing different fountains and landed on this one.
First, assembly is quick and easy. It's also very easy to take apart and clean; which I do about once a week (we have a lot of sediment in our water). If you your water isn't great, like mine, it would probably be best to use bottled water.
Second, one reviewer complained about having to turn the water bottle part over and how water goes everywhere. I found that if you pull up on little grey "stopper" on the screw top and hold it over the opening that it slides into while you turn it over, there is little to no spillage.
Third, people have complained that the fountain part stopped working. I've owned the fountain for almost four months now and it still works great. One thing to be aware of is the position of the black lever that is attached to the submersible pump. The further to the left the lever is turned, the less the water flow; thus, the more to the right the more water flow. I can't say for sure if that is the reason the others had problems, but I know it took me a while to figure that out.
A helpful tip another reviewer posted is to place the water fountain on the opposite side of the house than the food bowl. They are a lot less likely to throw up in their water bowl.
