I'm a new rat owner, and was at a bit of a loss as to what was in my price range, would fit in my rather small dorm room, and would house my rats comfortably and safely. I went with this because it came with everything I needed to start off with. It was a good choice, as it got me going for the first few weeks with my three girls rather painlessly. The only real issue was that the bedding included isn't enough to fill the cage, so I had to buy extra to supplement but that wasn't a big deal for me since I would have had to buy some anyway.
I don't love the wheel, my girls were terrified of it and it only took up space so I got rid of it and put in a little hut for them to hide in. They also weren't huge fans of the food provided since it's pretty pellet heavy and they refuse to eat those things. But as far as the cage itself goes I'm very happy. My girls don't chew on the plastic at all, and they like the platforms and ramps. I like that it's all plastic and easy to clean. I'm also a big fan of the three doors, as one of my girls is still pretty skiddish about being picked up and will try to run away from me when I try to get her out to clean the cage, but the doors give me easy access to every part of the cage so I can catch her without too much of a fuss.
Overall, this was a good choice for me and I'd recommend it to anyone with a low budget and a small space.

by cannedpizza Rats chewed through the base
I honestly thought I had a winner with this cage. It was a decent size, no wire floors, and had multiple levels for my rats to run around on. The base seemed sturdy and well constructed, at least until about a week ago, when my rats chewed through the lip on the inside of the base. It's just an indent without an obvious purpose that sticks out at the bottom of the base and gives the rats a perfect place to dig their teeth into and chew a giant hole.
I would recommend getting a different cage without that weird indent.

My 2 male rats only chew the toys I provide for them in their cage so I didn't have any problems with them destroying the cage itself. Overall it's a good starter pack for the price. My rats had no interest in the hammock it came with and it broke after only a few days, but I planned to make them one out of fleece anyway so that wasn't an issue. I use the saucer wheel in their playpen outside of the cage and replaced it with a bar mount wheel inside the cage to give them some more floor space, and I just threw the food it came with away because it's not the best quality. I feed them Oxbow Regal Rat instead. We also bought some more bedding because it came with barely enough to cover the cage floor. Other than those small things though, I am pleased with the cage for my two boys.

Bought this cage for two rats. The package states it fits four so we thought they would have lots of room to roam and play. This was all true until the neighbor boy added two more rats to the cage because his mom would not let them inside thier home for the winter. With four rats the cage now has a big hole in the corner after two short months. So maybe this would have happened eventually with the original two rats, maybe not. But really if it states you can use the cage for four rats then you should be able to use the cage for four rats! Sadly disappointed!!! Didn't even last a year!
